IRTS RADIO NEWS BULLETIN Sunday April 28th 1996 IRTS AGM Later this afternoon, starting at 2.30 pm, the Annual General Meeting of the IRTS is being held at Jurys Hotel in Ballsbridge. The Radio and Electronics Exhibition is well under way by now but if you are listening in the Dublin area, you still have time to get out there and grab a few bargains. ________________________________ Wicklow Wireless Society On April 3rd, members of EI2WW Wicklow Wireless Society, joined by members of EI2SDR South Dublin Radio Club, spent 2 hours viewing the antenna and transmitting building of Long Wave Radio ATLANTIC 252 guided by Jim EI2BB who very efficiently answered all questions and explained all matters relating to the station. The 2 by 500KW water cooled transmitters serving the 290 foot antenna operate on a 24 hour basis - being at full power 0600-1800 reducing by 50% between 1800-0600. ATLANTIC 252 broadcasts are heard as far as USA and Russia but mainly serve the UK with non stop music for the younger listeners. On Saturday 20th April the club members, with the kind permission and co-operation of the Maritime Institute of Ireland, the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the Harbour Masters Office and the Department of Communications operated EI3IMD for International Marconi Day from Dun Laoghaire. Two 132 foot windom antenna were suspended between the belfry of the former Mariners Church (now the National Maritime Museum) and the trees surrounding Moran Park House - site of the 1898 transmission by Marconi. An excellent operation was enjoyed, aided by guest operators Paul EI5DI and Paul EI2CA. The next club meeting will be on Wednesday May 1st, and the AGM is scheduled for Wednesday May 15th. ________________________________ Galway Radio Experimenters Club The Galway Radio Experimenters Club will hold their annual rally on July 14th next at the usual venue, the Convent of Mercy, Newtownsmith in the centre of Galway City.
